Housed in a charming two-storey mansion at Rua Barão da Torre, 632, in Ipanema, Babbo Osteria is the first home of Swiss-Brazilian chef Elia Schramm. With its cozy décor and elegant atmosphere, the restaurant pays homage to the chef’s family origins and celebrates Italian cuisine with personality and affection.
The name “Babbo” (Papa in Italian) is a direct reference to his father, Roland Schramm, who was born in Zurich and raised in the Italian region of Switzerland. Inspired by these roots, the menu features classics of Italian cuisine with authorial touches, often with family recipes reinterpreted with technique and a lot of flavor.
Among the highlights on the menu are the filet mignon au poivre medallion with gnocchi in grana padano sauce and the open prawn ravioli with pumpkin textures, fonduta, black garlic and crunchy almonds – dishes that reveal the chef’s delicacy and creativity.
To accompany it, the drinks are a spectacle in themselves. The house suggestion is the Viareggio, a refreshing combination of bourbon, limoncello, ginger ale and lemon, which perfectly reflects Babbo’s light and sophisticated spirit.
